Welcome Back to Lincoln!
It has been exactly 3 months since the last newsletter and now we are back for the new school year. Here are a list of changes that are happening to the Wellness Center for this year.

- Christy Parsons is still here full time and will continue to teach the Reconnecting Youth class. However, this year she will only be teaching one class.
- Nurse Monica Murphy is back this year as well and has been reduced from 4 to 3 days a week.
- The Asian-American Recovery Services are no longer on-site in the school district.
- Richmond Area Multi-Services has increased their presence in the district and Sheening Lin will now be working here full-time and Sharon Wong will be here once a week.
- Our two new counselors from San Francisco State are Emi Harada-Koga and Rebecca Peng.
- Talia Korenbrot from La Casa de las Madres is not returning this year, but in her place will likely be Kory Okun from the same agency.

Feel free to reply to this message for any questions.

ARTS & LEARNING: VISUAL THINKING STRATEGIES
Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
701 Mission Street @ 3rd, San Francisco

Wednesday, September 22
10:00am – 12:30pm
$10.00 Registration Fee

Breakfast will be provided!

Philip Yenawine, internationally renowned museum educator and co-founder of Visual Understanding in Education (VUE) will talk to Bay Area educators, teaching artists, and youth practitioners about his innovative curriculum, Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS).

During VTS lessons, students are asked to articulate their views, find evidence in images to support their claims, listen to and consider the viewpoints of their peers, and debate possible interpretations. This inquiry-based, student-centered methodology will invigorate any youth program and bring excitement and discourse into art education. The VTS curriculum is designed for elementary aged students, but can be used for all ages!

PAID YOUTH INTERNSHIP WITH YOUTH INITIATED PROJECTS
Make up to $3500 over the school year!

What is Youth Initiated Projects (YIP)? YIP gives cash and support to youth-led projects, programs and campaigns across SF. A group of young people (the YIP Board) leads YIP and gives out the funds. YIP is a program of the Youth Leadership Institute (YLI), San Francisco Peer Resources, and the San Francisco Youth Commission.

What does the YIP Intern do? The YIP intern works with YIP staff and the YIP Review Board. The intern reaches out to youth-led groups across the city, represents YIP in the community, supports the YIP Review Board, and connects with groups that YIP funds. The YIP intern helps out with YIP paperwork, YIP events, and gets an opportunity to do a special project of their choice. YIP staff will provide ongoing training and support to the intern.

What’s the time commitment? 8-12 hours per week in afternoons, evenings and some Saturdays. The internship starts in September 2004, and ends in June 2005.

How much does the intern get paid? Interns get paid a “stipend” (a lump sum) about 4X a year, but it comes out to about $10/hour.

Who can apply? Anyone ages 16-23 who lives in SF. We are looking for someone who wants to help out their community; likes speaking in front of groups; can work with youth and adults from different backgrounds, is organized; and is willing to learn. Experience with Microsoft Word & Excel is helpful. Young people of color strongly encouraged to apply.

How do you apply? Send a resume or list of previous work or volunteer experiences to the following address or use fax (4150836-0071) or email (church@yli.org).
