Dear Parents,
As you may have already heard, the governor’s budget proposal for the 2008-2009 school year is a devastating $4.8 billion dollar decrease for K-12 schools. He also proposes the suspension of Proposition 98 and that school districts begin looking at a 10% reduction in most programs.
These cuts represent about $40 million for students in the San Francisco Unified School District. That is equivalent to 500+ layoffs of teachers, administrators or other certificate and classified staff. We could also see an increase of class size in grades 4-12 to 39.5 students and the elimination of many classes students need for college entrance requirement.
Lincoln’s proposed 2008-09 budget is $260,000 less than that of this current school year. This is equivalent to 7 F.T.E or 35 sections. The School Site Council is working diligently to balance the budget, but has had difficulties while still trying to maintain the quality program that Lincoln offers.
It still is not too late to let the governor know that his proposed budget is unacceptable! Contact state legislators and Governor Schwarzenegger to tell them that they cannot take money away from public education, become involved in statewide efforts like those of the PTSA and spread the word and organize others. Together we may be able to convince those in charge that the budget must be restored at the same level of last year.
Partners in Education,
Mr. Ronald J.K. Pang
Principal Pang is not sleeping well these days. The San Francisco school district said that schools in the district were going to get a 10% budget cut in funding in the next budget. That means cuts in teachers and programs. We cannot allow that to happen. Mr. Pang provided the PTSA with important information on how we as parents and guardians of Lincoln students can help... WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE... If you would like to be the leader of an effort to fight this injustice in funding, contact us right away. We need a leader who could help lead a Lincoln High protest of the budget cuts. In the alternative, make calls, send letters, and speak with everyone you know and tell them: No cuts! Do your share. We've had it with school budget cuts since we have barebones funding already. What is there to cut that won't effect my child's future? Will the cuts effect college entry requirements?
ACT TODAY AND GIVE PRINCIPAL PANG A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP!
HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN DO TO FIGHT THIS THREAT TO YOUR CHILD'S EDUCATION.
After the Principal spoke he joked, "Now any good news"... All I can say is: Have A Nice Day...
This message has been approved by the PTSA board.

Sponsored by the ALHS PTSA in collaboration with the Wellness Center and College / Career Department.
Dear Parents and Families,
Lincoln High School is the proud recipient of the 21st Century Assets grant which allows us to run an extensive after school program. The ExCel After School Program will begin at the second semester and will include an array of classes, activities and supports for students. Some classes available for variable elective credit currently include photography, dance, silk-screen printing, cooking, and automotive detailing. Though the program will run five days a week, these classes will only be offered on select days and times. We want students to learn about a skill or trade they are interested in and have fun!
In addition to these classes, we will also offer additional support for the exit exam, as well as possible online courses for credit retrieval. The latter will be particularly helpful for seniors who may need to make up a class for graduation credit. Our new college/career counselor, Harlan Edelman, is diligently researching this piece. Harlan is also the ExCel Program Coordinator; we are lucky to have him!
We are excited to expand our offerings here at Lincoln. We expect this program to grow as it changes and develops. Please check our website for updates on the program and encourage your child to participate if s/he is interested. It is a great opportunity for our students!
Respectfully,
Kristin Cacal, Assistant Principal

Surrounding Neighborhood Is Filthy!
Once again, the Neighbors have united and will take steps to CLOSE OUR CAMPUS, if we don’t take steps to stop the littering. We have received countless complaints on a daily basis from our surrounding neighbors. You need only to walk or drive up the street to see that these complaints are justified. It is upsetting because ALL the good things about our school, the students & programs, are being overshadowed by something so easily remedied. PLEASE MUSTANGS, PICK UP YOUR TRASH – PICK UP YOUR FRIENDS’ TRASH OR TELL YOUR FRIENDS TO PICK UP THEIR OWN TRASH! Parents, please remind your students, that their lunch time litter is their responsibility, not our neighbors!
YOU ARE ON THE PATH TO A CLOSED CAMPUS!
Let’s work together, and remind our students to be responsible for our environment. Together, we can help maintain our open campus at lunch, by seeing to it that our neighborhood remains clean! I expect the students of Abraham Lincoln High School to take care of this immediately, and be more responsible! THIS IS A SERIOUS SITUATION! The consequences we face would be from the neighbors uniting and petitioning to have a closed campus during lunch time!

WELCOME BACK!
If a child is absent from school, parents/guardians are asked to call the attendance office. We also ask that the parent/guardian send a note to school with the child to verify the absence. The child's name, homeroom and HO# should be included on the note. Only certain absences are considered excused per Education Code Section. Such as, student illness, quarantine, and medical appointment, funeral services of immediate family, jury duty, and lack of immunization. Even if the parent/guardian calls in to report the absence, the automatic autodial will call to report that the child was absent from school. Upon returning to school, the student should submit the note from home to the attendance office where a readmit will be issued. The child has 48 hours to show the readmit note to his/her teacher(s) to verify that the absence was a legitimate.
